The Federal Government has clarified that the ban on the Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (Post-UTME) does not interfere with the statutory roles of university senates or academic boards in the admission process.
In a statement issued by the Deputy Director of Press and Public Relations, Mr. Ben Goong, on behalf of the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, the clarification was made to address widespread confusion surrounding the roles of JAMB and tertiary institutions under the new admission framework.
According to the Minister, JAMB remains responsible for conducting the UTME, compiling the list of candidates who score 180 and above, and forwarding that list to the universities.
Universities will then apply their own admission criteria to shortlist candidates and return the list to JAMB for verification. Upon successful compliance with the guidelines, JAMB will issue official admission letters.
Importantly, any screening charges are only permitted for candidates who have already been admitted. All institutions and JAMB are expected to strictly adhere to this directive.
